Over the past year, the average compensation awarded in workplace race discrimination cases fell by 14%, despite there being an increase in the number of cases.
The reason for the fall was partly due to lower-value claims coming forward in the wake of the abolition of employment tribunal fees in July 2017.
Moreover, improved HR procedures have helped organisations to tackle discrimination in the workplace more effectively and enabled them to deal with the problems quicker, which has led to fewer higher-value cases going forward to tribunal, which has brought down the overall average for awards.
