Age Discrimination has been cited as the biggest obstacle to getting back into employment.
Jobrapido conducted research surveying 2027 people in the UK who are currently not in education, employment or training for work, who had previously held management, executive, administrative or manual labour positions.
The study found that 24% of respondents believed that the biggest obstacle for getting back into employment was their age and that employers were hiring the younger candidates. In addition, 32% of respondents believed that the skills needed for employment are very different from when they first stared out and that 21% felt they needed guidance for what roles would be relevant to them.
It is evident from the research that more needs to be done to tackle age discrimination and employment. With an ageing society, its important that organisations offer programmes, such as Returnships, which can give individuals who have had career breaks the training, skills and confidence needed to get back into employment.
