Research conducted by Kier Construction, surveying 2,000 parents, teachers and careers advisers, has found that poor careers advice may be costing the UK £90bn per year. Parents were particularly disparaging about the quality of advice offered in their children's schools, with 74% of parents claiming that careers advisers were too focused on academia, and 68% feeling that their children did not receive enough careers advice. This was backed up by the finding that 65% of pupils received no careers advice at all between the ages of 11 and 13, and 27% of 13 to 15-year-olds received only one hour during their time at school.
