The number of people that are openly trans is increasing both in society and the workplace yet it remains to be one of the most poorly understood and resourced.

This roundtable will be an excellent opportunity to understand trans, learn more about the challenges facing trans people what can be done to support and improve the work place. It will also be an excellent opportunity to network with other organisations as well as be part of a facilitated roundtable that will give you a chance to explore issues relating to trans in your workplace.

The roundtable will include

  • Understanding trans – the trans umbrella and terminology
  • Increasing your awareness of legislation in this area and support available for trans individuals
  • Issues to consider in developing support for both trans people and other employees in the workplace
  • Increasing your awareness of the work of the Scottish Trans Alliance and local support organisations

This session will be hosted by Joan Stuart who is our Member Engagement Manager responsible for supporting member organisations within Scotland with their diversity and inclusion agendas.

Joan has over 25 years’ Human Resources experience - both as a generalist and as an employee relations specialist. She commenced her career in the retail sector with Thornton’s in an operational role and then moved to an HR role in the National Health Service. More recently Joan was at Scottish Power, where she held number of operational and strategic Human Resources roles. Latterly she has led the Diversity and Inclusion strategy for ScottishPower, translating this into practical and workable solutions for the workplace.

Joan will also be joined by James Morton who is Manager for the Scottish Trans Alliance who are at the forefront of leading the Scottish agenda on trans by assisting transgender people, service providers, employers and equality organisations to engage together to improve gender identity and gender reassignment equality, rights and inclusion.
