MyKindaFuture and enei’s joint 2021 research highlighted the current lived experiences of those within the Returner talent pool:

• 47% reported their primary reason for returning to the workplace to be to continue their career.
• 53% felt they were treated differently as a returning employee by their employer and wider workplace community.
• 34% had expectations of judgement around their technical competency and skills set.

As we continue to navigate a virtual world, many of the barriers that were perceived to exist when attracting and hiring returner talent have now been broken down. The need to tap into diverse pools of talent has significantly increased – employers need to explore the value of different underrepresented groups, and Returners are no exception.
